The plan: 13 states and 3 countries, July-Sept 2024
Which 13 states and 3 countries, you might ask?
Short answer: STATES: Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas, New Mexico, Washington State, Alaska, Utah, Illinois, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, Virginia. COUNTRIES: USA, Canada, and Cabo Verde.
Here’s the plan:
Mon July 1 - Fri July 12 - Music Cities river cruise from Memphis to Nashville including a few days on my own on each end
Fri July 12 - Tues July 16 - San Antonio for my regular checkups with all my doctors and to see family and friends
Wed July 17 - Wed July 31 - Albuquerque to check it out as a possible next landing place after Cabo Verde (not sure about being in ski country in ABQ, even if it's warmer in the valley)
Wed July 31 - Tues Aug 13 - Seattle, then train to Vancouver, Canada for Alaska cruise with three kids and four grandkids
Tues Aug 13 - Sat Aug 24 - Utah for BYU Education Week (always a highlight of my year - living in the dorms, eating in the cafeteria, and going to classes, just like fifty years ago!)
Sat Aug 24 - Wed Aug 28 - Nauvoo, Illinois (research for a client’s book)
Wed Aug 28 - Thurs Sept 5 - New Hampshire to visit my son, d-i-l, and three grandkids
Thurs Sept 5 - Tues Sept 10 - Boston on my own
Tues Sept 10 - Tues Sept 17 - Boston with my sibs (our annual sibling reunion)
Tues Sept 17 - Thurs Sept 19 - camping in Maine with my brother Scott
Thurs Sept 19 - Wed Sept 25 - Virginia grammysitting
Wed Sept 25 - on to Praia, Cabo Verde. I’ve got a reservation in a 14-room hotel near the Praia Temple for the first week, then I’ll figure it out from there. If it feels safe, I’ll stay for a year, volunteering in the community, doing work for my ancestors in the temple, and doing my own writing. If not, I’m outta there, and we’ll call it a two-week vacation.
Thanks for walking with me. Here goes!
